Tree Planting with SOUL & Friends of Lafitte Greenway

On November 4th and 5th from 9:30am-1:00pm, we will be partnering with SOUL (Sustaining Our Urban Landscape) to plant 200 Cypress trees along the Greenway Trail. This is part of the Greenway Grow! Initiative with the goal of planting 1,000 trees on the Greenway. Last April, we had the help of dozens of volunteers as we planted the first 100 trees! Help us continue this project by volunteering in our future tree plantings to keep the Greenway healthy and vibrant.

Trick or Treat! 

Spooky season is upon us! Join us on October 31st from 6pm - 8pm at 1971 Lafitte Street for Halloween Spooktacular. Dress up the kiddos (and yourselves) in costumes and walk the Greenway. We will be having a candy giveaway along the trail as a safe alternative to trick or treating. 

We are also looking for community partners to pass out candy to attendees. If you or your business is interested in joining us, please apply below.

Get Fit the Greenway

Our Get Fit the Greenway series is still in session making for a relaxing evening in the Autumn breeze. Join in on any of our free workout classes, all hosted on the Greenway. 

We are also introducing a new yoga session throughout Oct 29th - Nov 19th. Every Saturday from 9:00-10:00 AM you can enjoy a morning of yoga on the Great Lawn!

All workout classes are free and all attendees receive a Blue Bikes code for participation!

The Family Wellness Health Fair will be hosting free health screenings on October 29th from 12-4pm. Enjoy a day of free food, music, and the chance to participate in eye exams, blood pressure screenings and more. 

Grow!: Meadows update

Noticed anything different about the Greenway? We’ve cut down the crops on the corners of N Galvez. This is part of a termination process of what was once sun hemp and sunflowers. The meadows will now self mulch and provide nutrients into the soil. In its place will be wildflowers that over time will bloom! Stop by over the next few weeks to witness this new growth!

Friends is looking for an engaging, dynamic, and driven Executive Director to build on the organization’s 15+ years of success by advancing the organization’s mission, innovating upon its strengths, and carrying the organization’s work forward. Candidates will be tasked with upholding the vision of Friends, a healthy and vibrant Greenway that connects people to nature, their destinations, and each other.
