Soon to Bloom: Sunflowers & Sunn Hemp

The Greenway meadows on the Great Lawn are germinating. In a few weeks, sun hemp and sunflowers will be growing tall. These cover crops are helping outgrow weeds before planting pollinator flowers meadows. These meadows will support essential pollinators and beautify the Greenway.

Thank you to the Coypu Foundation Trust established by John S. McIlhenny for supporting the Greenway meadows.

High Line Network: Greenway Ambassador Program Spotlight

Friends of Lafitte Greenway is proud to be a member of the High Line Network--an international group of infrastructure reuse projects and the people who are helping them come to life.

The High Line Network recently featured the Lafitte Greenway Ambassador Program as a case study and best practice in its Community First Toolkit.

“The legitimacy of the Greenway’s initiatives can be traced directly to the voices on the ground and the involvement of the communities it serves.”

Greenway Ambassadors have been able to learn about green infrastructure, lead community engagement on the Greenway, and carry out their own Ambassador projects. Thank you to the Foundation for Louisiana for its support of the Greenway Ambassador Program, and the High Line Network for sharing lessons of infrastructure reuse projects at all scales and stages of development.
