We got some great feedback from the Greenway communities on the upcoming Clarity Parks Project: Lafitte Greenway Plaza. This project is a $40,000 rapid-build project meant to transform the former parking lot of the old Brake Tag Station into a vibrant and welcoming pedestrian plaza; and set the foundation for future improvements to the site. Learn more about the project here.

Over 230 people weighed in on the design via paper survey, online survey, and our public meeting on August 11th. Here's what we heard from you:

What do you want to do at the Plaza?

A great public space serves the community's needs!  The leading activities were informal gatherings with friends, sitting in the shade, and attending Market Umbrella's weekly Crescent City Farmers Market. The team from Urbanscapes Design+Build Collaborative will use this feedback to make sure the design of the space makes it easy to participate in the top activities.

Which color scheme do you prefer?

To bring life to the space and establish it as a place for people, not cars, the design includes a ground mural that includes plants and geometric shapes. Two color schemes were presented. The pink scheme was the clear winner, with 49% of the vote.

What games do you like best?

The Plaza design will include games painted on the ground. A Labyrinth was the most popular game.

Other Key Priorities

Urbanscapes Design+Build team has been hard at work to incorporate the feedback into the Plaza design to better meet community desires for the space. Some of the key updates include:

  • Adjusting the furniture layout to allow for social interaction, and take advantage of the shade
  • Incorporating the preferred games into the ground paint design, and updating it with a more local feel
  • Adding trash cans to the site
  • Continuing focus on native plantings
