Volunteers planted 100 cypress trees on the Lafitte Greenway on Friday and plan to plant 100 more over the weekend.

Sustaining Our Urban Landscape, or SOUL, and Friends of Lafitte Greenway partnered up for a multi-year project to plant 1,000 bald and pond cypress trees along the Lafitte Greenway. This year, they planted 300 along the bike and pedestrian path.

Each tree is mapped and tracked to collect data on the different environmental benefits they might have on the area.

The trees were donated by corporate sponsors.
