A big believer in the power of community engagement, Nellie Catzen joins Friends of Lafitte Greenway as Community Health Program Coordinator. Nellie has 5 years of nonprofit project coordination experience, and has spent most of her career working in youth empowerment, food justice, racial justice, and environmental advocacy. Before joining the Friends of Lafitte Greenway, she spent two years as Special Projects Coordinator for Catholic Charities Archdiocese of New Orleans, where she focused on strengthening the agency’s services to refugees and immigrants. She holds a degree in Environmental Health from the University of Pennsylvania, and is passionate about healthy food, community organizing, and live music. "I'm thrilled to be joining the team just as the Greenway is set to open," Nellie said, "Can't wait to engage with community partners along the Greenway to help make it a great public space!"

Sydney Doyle is a Tulane AmeriCorps VISTA, and will completer her year of service with Friends of Lafitte Greenway as a Development & Community Outreach Associate. She holds a Master of Arts in Teaching and Bachelor's degrees in Education, Community Justice and Policy Studies. Sydney previously worked for AmeriCorps, serving the refugee community in North Carolina, and worked in for an outdoor store. Sydney is extremely excited to learn more about the New Orleans community, and to support the development of programs programs that increase the health, education, and use of the Lafitte Greenway. A lover of the outdoors, Sydney says, “When we walk and interact with nature we receive far more than we could ever forsee.”

Meet Sydney and Nellie at Friends of Lafitte Greenway's upcoming meetings and events.
