We're excited to announce that the City of New Orleans is investing in green infrastructure improvements along Basin St in the coming weeks. Starting Monday, May 19th the parking lane on Basin Street between North Villere Street and North Claiborne Avenue will be replaced with permeable parking. The project will be underway for about 10 weeks.
Permeable pavement helps absorb precipitation and surface runoff, storing it in the underground reservoir while slowly allowing water to infiltrate into the soil below or discharge into the drainage system; reducing street flooding and subsidence. You can find examples of permeable pavement on the sidewalks that connect to the Greenway trail (pictured above). These improvements are critical for New Orleans’ resilience against flooding, and will help us all live with water. Learn more about the benefits of Green Infrastructure here.
Many thanks to the City of New Orleans, Department of Public Work’s Road Work Nola and Mayor Cantrell for investing in the improvements we need for a more resilient future. If you have any questions about the project, contact RoadworkNOLA at 504.658.7623 or email [email protected].
