The Lafitte Greenway route has a rich history of over 200 years as a transit route and integral part of the water infrastructure for the City of New Orleans. Our Walking Workshops introduce the community and visitors to the Lafitte Greenway, get people outside & moving, and highlight historical buildings, cultural sites, and innovative environmental and stormwater management efforts.
What to expect:
- Workshops are co-led by Friends of Lafitte Greenway staff and trained Lafitte Greenway Ambassadors for a combination of community and technical expertise.
- Participants will be led on an interactive walking tour of a 1.5-2 mile portion the Lafitte Greenway
- Participants will have the option of taking a self-guided tour of the remainder of the Greenway, returning via RTA Canal St. Streetcar line (token provided) or walking back to the starting point. The starting and ending points vary month to month.
- Walking Workshops are free! Participants will have an opportunity to make a donation to Friends of Lafitte Greenway.
Who can attend a Walking Workshop?
The workshops are geared toward all Greenway users- young and old, tourists and locals alike. Participants should be able to comfortably walk 2 miles, or have the necessary supportive equipment to do so safely (wheelchair, stroller, etc.).
